Traffic Management Implementation Training#

Frequently asked questions#

Full Program#

What are the changes to the Full Program?#

The completion of TMR's WPT Part 1 and 2 eLearn programs will be a requirement for the issuing of TMR's TMI Card from 1st October 2019.

Will this requirement be a pre-requisite to attending the training program?#

No. The eLearn programs are to be completed as part of the assessment process – during the three months after attending the face to face training. Participants are to complete the three live set ups and submit a Third-Party Report during this time as well.

Can a Statement of Attainment still be awarded to participants who have not completed the WPT eLearn Programs?#

Yes. Completion of the WPT programs are to be linked to the issuing of TMR's TMI card, not the Statement of Attainment.

Renewal Program#

To continue to be recognised as a TMI Officer in Queensland you must demonstrate ongoing industry currency relevant to the job role of a Traffic Management Implementer, as outlined in the units of competency, by completing a renewal training program before the date of expiry (TMI cards are valid for three years from date of issue)

When was the TMI Renewal program implemented?#

The program was implemented 1st October 2019.

What are the pre-requisites for the renewal program?#
  • Working in Proximity to Traffic Part 1 – Awareness. Certificate of Completion
  • Working in Proximity to Traffic Part 2 – Works Protection Methods. Certificate of Completion
  • Currency of Industry Practice (Third Party Reports x 2; TGS, toolbox, SWMS Risk Management Plan)
  • QLD TMR Traffic Management Implementation Card
  • Statement of Attainment for RIIWHS302D Implement Traffic Management Plan
What is the duration of the program?#

The program consists of one full day of face to face training.

What is the minimum number of participants?#

As the renewal program is designed to incorporate group activities the minimum number of students is four.

Can the student be enrolled in the Full Program instead of the Renewal Program?#

It is no longer permissible for a TMI renewing student to be enrolled in the full program as an alternative to the renewal program, or to combine renewal students and full program students in the one program. This is because the programs are vastly different. The full program currently focuses on the MUTCD Part 3 content. The renewal program focuses on industry currency, risk assessment and the application of best practice procedures in the implementation, monitoring and removal of traffic guidance schemes. In addition, students who successfully complete the renewal program including meeting the evidence requirements in the Currency of Industry Practice, will be awarded with the unit of competency RIIRIS301D Apply risk management processes.

What units of competency does this program include?#

The program includes the following units of competency:

  • RIIWHS302E Implement traffic management plan
  • RIIRIS301D Apply risk management processes
What is awarded after the program?#

Once the student has successfully completed the program, including meeting the evidence requirements in the Currency of Industry Practice, they will be awarded the following:

  • RIIWHS302E Implement traffic management plan – Certificate of Currency (COC)
  • RIIRIS301D Apply risk management processes – Statement of Attainment
  • Students will also receive a numbered TMR Traffic Management Implementation card, valid for three years from the date of the program completion.

Working in Proximity to Traffic Programs#

Do the Working in Proximity to Traffic programs have an expiry?#

No. These programs are only required to completed once.

Interstate TMIs#

What is the training process for interstate TMIs?#

The training requirement for a TMI to work on Qld roads is dependent on the individual's currency of industry practice (COIP) and the evidence they have to prove currency. The amount of evidence, or lack thereof, will determine whether an individual will be required to complete the Qld TMI full program or the Qld TMI renewal program.

What if an individual has a Certificate of Attainment for RIIWHS302E and evidence that meets the COIP requirements, excluding the Working in Proximity to Traffic (WPT) Part 1 & 2 programs?#

Individuals will need to complete the WPT programs and undertake the renewal program. On successful completion, an individual will be awarded the Statement of Attainment for RIIRIS301D Apply Risk Management Processes and a Certificate of Currency for RIIWHS302E Implement Traffic Management Plan.

What if an individual has a Certificate of Attainment for RIIWHS302E Implement Traffic Management Plan and does not have the evidence?#

The individual will need to do the full program and complete the assessment requirements for that program. (three live set ups and complete WPT Part 1 & 2 programs within 3 months). Individuals will be awarded with a Certificate of Currency for RIIWHS302E Implement Traffic Management Plan.
