10VariousAmendment• Update guidance for zebra crossings: − Replace posted speed limit ? 50km/h requirement with an 85th% speed ? 50km/h requirement, allowing at grade zebra crossings on roads with a posted speed limit of 60 km/h subject to a risk assessment (Safe System Assessment) − Remove restriction on a raised zebra crossing on no more than one lane of moving vehicle traffic in any one direction, allowing raised crossings on multi-lane roads subject to a risk assessment (Safe System Assessment) when using the specified raised crossing treatment − Replace reference to arterial roads with reference to 85th% speed, with the operating speed dictating crossing type, not classification (particularly important for arterial roads through rural towns) − Allow raised crossings where posted speed up to 60 km/h on raised platforms that reduce operating speed (85th %) to ?40km/h • Update guidance for refuge crossings: − Introduce the requirement for a risk assessment (Safe System Assessment) where refuges are proposed for multi-lane roads − Introduce the requirement for a risk assessment (Safe System Assessment) were refuges are proposed for roads with a posted speed of 60 km/h or higher and only one lane of traffic is crossed by the pedestrian before reaching the refuge.
