20.2Manufacture#

20.2.1Registered manufacturer#

The manufacture of the steel beam guardrail posts, panels components and end treatments shall only be manufactured by a registered manufacturer. The requirements of registration are outlined in document SCM-P-015 (refer Transport and Main Roads website). An exemption to this is the manufacture of the "W Beam to Thrie Beam Transition Rail (B007)" as shown in Standard Drawing 1481. In this instance, the supplier needs to provide the department the following document with the supplied product:

  • copies of material certificates in accordance with the relevant Australian Standards. Testing shall be performed by an ILAC accredited laboratory.

Registration as a manufacturer will be reviewed periodically or earlier if unsatisfactory performance is reported. For information regarding registered suppliers and approved products refer to the departmental website, www.tmr.qld.gov.au.

20.2.2Registered manufacturer in Australia#

To be registered as an approved manufacturer of Public Domain Steel Beam Guardrail and End Treatments, a manufacturer shall:

  1. a)Operate a third party quality system certified to AS/NZS ISO 9001. The system will be audited by Transport and Main Roads to ensure that manufacturer is working as stated in their system requirements and the system conforms to the requirements of Transport and Main Roads contracts.
  2. b)Demonstrate technical conformance to this Technical Specification.
  3. c)Manufacture the posts, panels, yokes and slip base posts.
  4. d)Provide traceability of all materials.
  5. e)Maintain records of all products placed on the market for a minimum of 10 years, and
  6. f)Make available all relevant documentation when product is supplied.

20.2.3Registered manufacturer – outside Australia#

To be registered as an approved manufacturer of Steel Beam Guardrail and End Treatments, a manufacturer shall:

  1. a)Operate a third party quality system certified to AS/NZS ISO 9001. The system will be audited by an Auditor acceptable to Transport and Main Roads. The Auditor shall ensure that the manufacturer is working as stated in their system requirements and the system conforms to the requirements of Transport and Main Roads contracts.
  2. b)Demonstrate technical conformance to this Technical Specification. The technical capability shall be audited by an Auditor acceptable to Transport and Main Roads. The Auditor shall ensure that the manufacturer can demonstrate technical conformance to this Technical Specification.
  3. c)Manufacture the posts, panels, yokes and slip base posts.
  4. d)Provide traceability of all materials.
  5. e)Maintain records of all products placed on the market for a minimum of 10 years.
  6. f)Make available all relevant documentation when product is supplied.
